Preparing Sea Moss Gel

Sea moss or Irish moss is wonderful super-food with a variety of health benefits for the body and mind. If made and used correctly, sea moss gel can serve as an additive in your favorite smoothies, can be used a rejuvenated face mask, and so much more!

So today, we’ll be giving you step-by-step instructions on how tomake sea moss gel and enjoy its merits to the fullest!

Step 1 – Cleaning Sea Moss

Firstly, it is important to remove any visible debris or dirt particles from the sea moss. It is ideal that you wash the sea moss at least twice by soaking it in water and rubbing it gentlyto make sure it is thoroughly cleaned. Always use spring or filtered water for cleaning. When handling the washed sea moss, make sure your hands are clean so that you don’t contaminate it again.

After the sea moss is cleaned, place it in a large bowl and fill it completely with spring or filtered water. Allow the sea moss to soak for at least 12 to 24 hours. You can leave the bowl at room temperature; there’s no need for refrigeration.

TIP: NEVER boil sea moss. This will destroy all its nutrients.

Once the sea moss is done soaking, you will see that it has expanded and absorbed the water. You can either leave the sea moss like this and use when needed, or make a sea moss gel and store it. We recommend the latter.

Step 2 – Making Sea Moss Gel

Remove the soaked sea moss from the water and place it in a clean, dry plate. Don’t waste this water since it contains a bunchof nutrients from the sea moss and will be utilized to make the sea moss gel.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Put the sea moss in a high-powered blender. Add the water – start by adding one cup and keep adding more subsequently, depending on what consistency you want.
  • Keep blendingfor about 1 to 3 minutes until a smoothgel-like consistency is obtained.
  • Place the sea moss gel in an airtight container and place it in the fridge. The gel will further thicken after about 2 hours.

Step 3 - Storing Sea Moss Gel

As long as you keep it airtight, refrigerated sea moss can last for as long as a month. Also, you can freeze the sea moss for up to 3 months. Alternatively, you can pour the gel into ice-cube trays and freeze them for using later. This works perfectlywhen you need to add cubes of sea weed to your favorite smoothies.
