Try This Simple Sea Moss Gel Recipe Today!

Sea moss is a type of algae rich in nutrients. It provides 92 out of the 102 essential amino acids required by the human body. Sea moss is usually very dry and the best and easiest way of using this amazing ocean superfood is to turn it into a gel. If you think this involves a lot of work, think again! Here’s a simple sea moss gel recipe that you can use to make instant sea moss gel and replenish your overall health.

Sea Moss Gel Recipe 

Ingredients (makes approximately four cups of sea moss gel):

  • Half a cup of organic dried sea moss from Herbal Vineyards
  • One and ¼ cup of filtered water or spring water (an additional amount may be required for soaking and cleaning)
  • Two to three organic limes or lemons (optional)

Method:

  1. Put the measured sea moss into a large mixing bowl. 
  2. Fill the mixing bowl with cold water until the sea moss is completely covered (approximately ¾ full). You will see the moss will quickly start to absorb water and swell.
  3. With your hands, start to carefully scrub the moss to eliminate any possible dust and debris such as shell bits, sand, crustaceans, etc. 
  4. Remove the dirty water and repeat steps 2-3 until the rinse water appears clear. 
  5. Fill your bowl of washed sea moss with clean water and immerse the seaweed completely. 
  6. Cut optional lemons or limes into quarters and extract the juices into a separate bowl. Incorporate the extracted citrus juice into the sea moss. 
  7. Cover the bowl and set it aside to let the sea moss soak for one hour. 
  8. After an hour, remove all the liquid from the bowl and place the drained sea moss into a high-speed blender or food processor. Put this homogenized mixture aside. 
  9. In a separate pot, pour 1 and ¼ cups of water into a pot and heat it until it boils. Let it rest for a few minutes to cool down, then transfer to a blender or food processor. 
  10. Blend the sea moss mixture and cooled water on high for 2-3 minutes or until the blend is completely uniform and no seaweed bits are left. 
  11. Let the blended gel cool briefly before moving it to an airtight container or silicone ice cube molds. Sea moss gel can last in the refrigerator for 3-4 weeks and can be frozen for as long as 6 months. 

Some additional tips:

  • Citrus fruits assist in reducing the typical sea-like smell that sea moss often gives off. While some people don't consider the scent to be unpleasant, add the citrus element anyway to contribute a touch of citrusy freshness to the final of this recipe. 
  • Silicone ice-cube trays are a better option than an airtight jar for storage. Cubes give you pre-portioned servings that you can easily incorporate into your morning smoothies or mid-day snacks.
